MEET THE STAFF

Meet John Spironello of John’s Bug Shop. John’s love for VWs has been with him since the age of 13. His dedication towards keeping the VW sport alive, and helping people out on their VW projects, is outstanding. As well as being the backbone of John’s Bug Shop he aims to keep in stock what people need for quicker service. John is usually at his desk behind the key board, but he is still found turning wrenches occasionally. Having owned many different VWs over the years, John currently is driving a 90 Passat for a daily driver.

Probably one of the highlights of my life was building this car for the Festival of Lights In Niagara Falls. The car was a project of mine when I was involved with Big Brother Big Sisters of Niagara Falls program. My little brother and I fastened the strings of Christmas lights to the car The most memorable moment was driving the bug with over 1800 mini-lights down the 401 Hwy, one of Ontario's busiest, at night, and having car after car pull up beside us and take a picture at 100klm an hour. Traffic was congested as far as I could see behind us. The following night I was threatened with a traffic violation if I did not turn the lights off, saying "Your vehicle could easily be mistaken for an Emergency Vehicle".

We finally finished our drag sedan. We installed a 2110cc street engine we had built for my fibreglass buggy that was sitting in our show room. We wanted to get the car down the track so we could make some passes with it before the season was gone. Trying to get the electronics and car set up was our main concern. We were happy with our low 12 second passes. We need to add some weight to the front end to make it more stable in the top end. We will be changing camshafts and increasing the Compression Ratio next season.

Meet Jennifer Missen Spironello.  Jennifer joined John’s Bug Shop in 2006 when she moved to the Niagara Falls area. Jennifer brings to us 20 years of experience in small business.  She previously has owned two successful franchised retail stores, as well as a successful career in the Real Estate and Mortgage industries. Jennifer is our office manager in charge of our company finances and human resources.

Meet Bernice Malier who’s been with John’s Bug Shop since September 1998. She takes care of Accounts Receivables and Payables as well as doing a great job as book keeper. Bernice wishes one day to own a Volkswagen, but she is patient and says good things come to those who wait.

Meet Jamie Gilbert who’s been with John’s Bug Shop since August 1998. Jamie is one of our Automotive Technician's and has been building our engines for several years. Jamie is also one who enjoys Dirt Track racing and races his own "Herbie" mini stock which is a 74 bug set up for Dirt Track racing. Jamie has really proved himself well over the years, with many spectacular wins throughout the season. He also won the hearts of the crowd with "Most Favorable Driver" Congratulations Jamie!!!   "GO GET UM HERBIE" !!! Jamie has also completed this nicely detailed and rather quick Fibreglass Buggy.

With a full tube chassis, disc brakes, and an 1835cc engine with dual 44IDF Webers, it gets around rather quickly making it a fun car to drive.

Jamie has been piloting the John's Bug Shop "Herbie" for 2 years

Meet Andy Gross who is one of the latest to join our sales team. Andy is in charge of Product Management. He also is in charge of Purchasing and is in contact with many of our suppliers daily. His chopped, 1954 street legal 12 second sedan is powered by a Kawell Turbo charged VW engine.  Andy also owned this beautiful Baja Bug that had the turbo motor in it previously, and had a tendency to lift the front wheels off the ground.

Meet Dave Voaden, one of our Service Technicians. Dave has been licensed for over 13 years and has a love for the automobile in general, owning several nicely restored muscle cars over the years. His current summer ride is a slammed 61 Sedan. His quality workmanship towards your vehicle is second to none. Dave's previous ride was a 91 Jetta Diesel.
